Sherry
Cofran is a graduate of The Rhode Island School of Design. She is coordinator
of our children's workshop program this summer. Pictured here
holding a painted
t-shirt project, she is helping youngsters paint shirts and not
themselves. Sherry is an illustrator who paints on fabric. A terrific
sense of humour sufaces in her own artwork. She also does custom
painting on shirts, pillows and even walls. Flowers, fruit, animals
& landscapes, that's her motto. Sherry and Janet Poleshuck
work together every weekend to make the children's art workshops
the best they can be. If it rains and there is nothing to do at
home, come to Headhouse under cover of the marketplace roof. Bring
the kids! They will have fun doing a workshop and entering an art
contest while mom browses. Sherry has the patience of a saint. Sometimes
if it is a popular workshop like the hat workshop, it is impossible
to whip those hats away and say "That's all folks!"
The show just goes on a while longer. All supplies are free. We
usually make sure that at least 50 kids are accomodated. |

Janet
Poleshuck graduated from The Moore College of Art and Design with a B.F.A.
in Metals. She is the major mover behind the childrens art
contest, entitled "Philadelphia, My Favorite Place". There
will be five winners at the end of the season selected by the board
of The Creative Collective. Janet monitors and guides children helping
them with their contest entries every sunday afternoon at Headhouse
Square in conjunction with the regular craft workshops. Kids love
to vent their artistic expression here. Janet has worked as an art
teacher in New Jersey for a number of years and now resides in Center
City. She is by trade a jewelry designer. One of her favorite endeavors
is making lamp-worked beads and incorporating them into her jewelry.
Janet and Sherry have their hands full every sunday afternoon standing
out of the way of the throng of children, parents, paper, paste,
sparkledust, scissors, paint. "It's a zoo" says Sherry,
as she tries to sweep up the sparkledust from the cobblestones.
We tried to hide the dust from the kids. No way! Out it comes again
by popular demand. Kids are smart! They know what they want when
they work on a project. They need room. Get out of the way and just
get them another t-shirt to paint "STAT". |

Bonnie
Bacich is pictured below teaching a weaving workshop; making dolls. Bonnie
is a graduate of The University of the Art. She is currently an
art teacher at Central High School. Bonnie enjoys teaching the younger
children that come to Headhouse. She also teaches ceramics and photography.
Her forte is fibers. Bonnie a.k.a. "the Mad Hatter" will
keep you in stitches for an hour. We try to please! Bonnie definitely
does. |
